Kauai Keen
Kauai Keen is a coconut based ice cream company based out of Kauai, Hawaii. They use the island’s coconut recourse to bring a delicious cold desert alternative. They wanted to create a treat that everyone can enjoy even if you are vegan or lactose intolerant; bringing a little piece of paradise to your life. They came to me fresh looking to brand their newly started company.
The Name
Kauai Keen coconut creamery is named after the island Kauai where they are based and added a little twist to represent who they are. The name is a play off of the phrase peachy keen which means very satisfactory. The word keen can also mean cold or excited which I felt melded perfectly with their brands bright playful personality.
How They Stand Out
The competitions designs are not as fun and colorful as the feelings you get when you think about ice cream. So I wanted to bring back the color, fun and personality that comes with thinking about ice cream. I took inspiration from the companies home and where its made in Hawaii! Hawaii makes you think of summer just like ice cream, I was also inspired by the 50’s Hawaii’s highlight in travel history. I chose cheeky and playful word play as a way for them to express themselves. Through the use of pattern as imagery this brand dares to bend the rules a bit. These playful colors pop against a natural warm browns. The packaging is inspired by vintage ice cream barrels, so you can carry a mini personal vintage barrel in your hand.
